SAMSUNG
BIOLOGICS
Working with CARTEL studio, I directed and animated this piece for Samsung Biologics conveying their vision to reduce carbon emissions across their entire production cycle and reach net zero.
After consulting on the script with BBC Storyworks, I began blocking out scenes with short text descriptions. It’s a really quick way to gauge timing and content. Then, working with our illustrator, we started creating simple sketches to explore what those scenes could look like.
After the storyboard and sketches were approved, we started to develop our design. We always need to keep in mind whether a particular style will work in motion. Being able to create and animate both 2D and 3D assets, I had a lot of freedom with the design and had confidence that we could get things animated without compromising the design.
Supply chains are all interconnected, and I wanted to echo this dynamic in our animation by using smooth transitions to complement our flowing design.
We pushed Adobe’s suite to uncomfortable places at times. But it really helped us to create some 3D elements inside After Effects. That allowed more control over the textures, meaning we could stay true to the original design. Just look at all those blocks though! Layer management was really key to keeping things manageable.
